Solvay Wilton (Redcar) is home to the Composite Materials Strategic R&I Group.
The remit of the group is to establish, and subsequently protect through IP new technology “platforms”. These technologies can then be exploited by the Composite Materials Business Product Development and Applications Engineering groups.
The need for new technology platforms comes through close interaction with scientists and technologists across the Composite Materials business’ customer base. Current technologies under development include composite recycling, flame retardancy and resin toughening.
Collaboration, both internal and external, is essential. Externally, we collaborate with academia through sponsorship of research projects and a trainee program. This program offers opportunity for exceptional students to gain, as part of their degree studies, experience of research in an industrial environment. Indeed several of today’s leaders in the Composite Materials GBU started their careers in the Wilton trainee program. Internally, a prime objective of the group is to leverage the expertise and capability within Solvay’s Corporate R&I through collaboration.
Solvay Wilton is part of the global Solvay Composite Materials business.
